We're thrilled to collaborate with the North Olympic Land Trust on this introduction to the wonderful world of plein air watercolor.

Following a personal welcome to the Lyre Conservation Area from Land Trust staff, the group will take a short walk down to the beach. There, local painter Catherine Mix will provide beginner-level instruction and live demonstrations showing how she creates an original painting on location. Participants will then have the opportunity to create their own plein air watercolor paintings inspired by the stunning natural environment of the Lyre Conservation Area, which includes woodland and riparian scenery as well as open beach areas and tide pools.

This workshop will take place on location at the Lyre Conservation Area; participants must be capable of walking approximately 2 miles round trip on a wide gravel trail with mostly flat surfaces and one steep downhill/uphill climb. A wagon will be available to assist with transporting chairs and other supplies.

Workshop cost covers instruction and all necessary art supplies; participants should dress appropriately for the weather (the instructor recommends a hat & windbreaker) and bring a water bottle and lightweight folding chair or other portable seat for use while painting. Participants may also wish to bring simple snacks, bug spray, or any other goodies that will make for a comfortable afternoon outdoors.

Driving Directions: From Port Angeles, drive approximately 3 miles west on Hwy 101, then turn right onto Hwy 112. Drive approximately 14 miles. Turn right on Reynold Rd and drive less than a half mile to a small parking area. The group will meet at the parking area.
