Diagnosing Environmental Stress -- Green Thumb Education Series
Name: Diagnosing Environmental Stress -- Green Thumb Education Series
Date: March 23, 2023
Time: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM PDT
Summers are growing hotter and dryer on the Olympic Peninsula creating more stress for once-green gardens and landscapes. Yellowing, wilting, curling and leaf drop are all signs that plants could be under duress and that all may not be right in your garden. Recognizing these changes can make the difference needed for healthy, verdant plants. Join Washington State University’s Dr. Linda Chalker-Scott for the Green Thumb Education Series presentation “Diagnosing Environmental Stress” to learn how to identify and possibly remedy environmental plant stress to keep your garden growing. She will discuss how to identify and rectify plant stress due to lack of water or excess salt in the soil, in addition to compacted, wet and improperly prepared soils. Linda has a Ph.D. in Horticulture from Oregon State University and is an ISA certified arborist and an ASCA consulting arborist. She is WSU’s Extension Urban Horticulturist and a Professor in the Department of Horticulture and holds two affiliate associate professor positions at University of Washington. She conducts research in applied plant and soil sciences, publishing the results in scientific articles and university Extension fact sheets. Linda is the editor of Western Arborist magazine and is the is the award-winning author of five books. She is featured in The Science of Gardening video series produced by The Great Courses and is one of the Garden Professors – a group of academic colleagues who educate and entertain through their blog and Facebook pages. Linda’s educational contributions to science-based information have been recognized by such groups as Garden Communicators International, the National Association of County Agricultural Agents, and the International Association for Arboriculture.
